A Sense Of Place: Messenia, Greece
“Navarino Bay’s unparalleled beauty and calming qualities create the perfect refuge for an unforgettable stay.”
Up on the hill the grandeur of the Castle looks down over the town and clifftops below. Once the home to the population of the town, the lookout from centuries past and the traditional pottery and everyday tools found within the grounds are an eternal symbol of exquisite craftsmanship.
Our evenings took us to the village of Gialova, a graceful and flourishing seafront walk, lined with new restaurant and bar openings to explore and enjoy. A truly stimulating atmosphere that is sympathetic to the local culture and an inviting step on Navarino’s journey to welcome guests from afar to the historical Messenia region.
Taking advantage of the surrounding natural beauty, inspired by the architectural palette and historical artistry, the bay area itself is currently undergoing a development heavily influenced by the local environment. Emulating the natural combination of incredible scenic delights; from the Gialova lagoon, to the rock formations of Pylos and archaeological heritage of Ancient Messene, our time visiting this incredible area and exploring all that Messenia has to offer felt like merely dipping our toes in the water. The natural textures, tones and patterns witnessed within this beautiful area has filled our inspiration cups to the brim and we cannot wait to hopefully return to this stunning environment one day soon.
